an exploration of threes

What is a triptych? An investigation of a scene. A lapse in time. A burst of action. A synaptic story told in three photographs. A mood developed through a continuance of form, color, and composition.

Triptych means three-fold and originally referred to a Roman writing tablet hinged and flanked by two similar works. The form allowed for easy transportation of altarpieces during the Gothic period. Hieronymus Bosch, Max Beckmann, and Francis Bacon painted wonderful triptychs that took the form away from its Christian context.

Here at Pictryp, photographers are investigating the serial form by combining images to create a richer viewing experience. Come back every week for new photos!
